Brief Biography:

I am an attorney licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, Arizona and the District of Columbia, and the Chairman of a law firm in Pittsburgh. I am also the President of Pennsylvania Firearms Development Corporation ("PFDC"). One of PFDC's activities was to develop a firearms training program which brought nationally known instructors to the Pittsburgh area between 1995 and 2003. In 2003 that program was turned over to the Firearms Instruction, Research & Education (F.I.R.E.) Institute, a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation devoted to firearms instruction, research and education. I am the current Executive Director of the F.I.R.E. Institute, and a member of its Board of Directors.

Personal Firearms Training:

I have received hundreds of hours of formal firearms training over the past fifteen years or so, in addition to regular martial arts training. Formal training to be an instructor is in addition to that. I attend at least two courses annually from various instructors and sources. I no longer keep a listing of my personal training experiences, but the listing below, current through 2008, will give anyone interested a pretty good idea of where I come from, training-wise:

As part of my training to be a firearms instructor, I have taken every opportunity to assist other instructors in the conduct of their courses. These included approximately a dozen of 3-day basic carbine courses, three 3-day Level II or "Intermediate" tactical carbine courses, approximately 3-day basic tactical pistol courses, Night/Low-Light pistol, revolver or carbine courses, and law enforcement defensive tactics courses required of Pennsylvania police officers under MPOETC. My training has also included acting as an assistant instructor in approximately six courses in defensive tactics, given by Operational Skills Group, LLC, under the direct supervision of Steve Tarani.

Firearms Instructor Experience:

In 1997, I first began presenting courses of firearms instruction in the role of Rangemaster. I have since been the Rangemaster in dozens of Level I and Level II carbine courses, hand gun courses, low-light firearms courses, personal firearms tactics courses, an many seminars specific aspects of the defensive use of firearms. There have been many hundreds of participants in those courses.

In 2005 I began teaching defensive tactics, with emphasis on weapon retention and surviving contact-distance assaults. My programs are geared toward ordinary citizens as they go about their daily routines, rather than law enforcement of military applications.

I have regularly lectured on the law pertaining to the use of deadly force, both in the context of firearms training courses and to community groups. As the current Executive Director of the F.I.R.E. Institute, I am responsible for administrative supervision of all firearms training courses sponsored by the F.I.R.E. Institute.
